Whites targeted by stonethrowers at Theunissen riots: "They are trying to kill us'...Tom de Wet of Volksblad reports 10 Feb 2014 that the black rioters who have been causing so much unrest in the Theunissen district are deliberately targetting whites to stone them to death. De Wet quoted local Afrikaner residents Buks and Retha Meintjies - who slammed the SAPS for not intervening, instead standing and chatting right next to their car while stones were raining down 'like cannon balls on our bakkie'. "The cops stood and chatted and did nothing,' said Buks. At least 11 vehicles were damaged by the stone-throwing rioters, reportedly hiding in the gras on the roadside 'right underneath the eys of the police' on Friday-evening. Meintjies said they called the Theunissen police before undertaking the drive through Theunissen - and were given the undertaking that a police-vehicle would 'accompany them through the problem-area'. When the Meintjies couple arrived at 22h30 in Theunissen, he saw a police vehicle with police standing and chatting to each other. Before the outskirts of town the Theunissen couple were already put under a rain of stones from a 'first group jumping from the grass and throwing our bakkie with stones'. "A few metres farther along a second group jumped up, and a third group.' "Stones the size of your fist were targeting the Afrikaner couple inside their bakkie - striking Retha against the head - and a piece of iron penetrated the bakkie.
Another victim, Linde Jordaan of Welkom, also was travelling in his bakkie from Welkom with disabled son Jurie, 16. "I was going back to Welkom at 11pm. On the Brandfort-side there were countless armed police officers of the riot-unit. I slowed down to ask them what was going on but they waved us on saying 'the road is open'. About 30 metres farther a group of people jumped from the high grass and stormed towards our bakkie: with a man in front throwing a stone the size of my fist right through the windshield. Fortunately it struck the roof-support and the other stones hit the bakkie. Just around the turn into Theunissen, he said there were traffic officers busy closing the road - and told him they 'could not understand why the police let you through because the road is closed.'
Theunissen residents Willem du Plessis and Nicky de Klerk also were amongst the other Afrikaners targeted by the stone-throwing gangs. SAPS sergeant Ian Gaobepe said over the weekend they got police-reinforcements from elsewhere to keep matters calmed down on Saturday and Sunday. The rioting has been going on more than two weeks. Dozens of people were arrested, amongst them members of the Economic Freedom Fights. The local residents of Theunissen are rioting because they demand that the local gold-mines hire them first before bringing in workings from outside areas. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Boere-Krisis-Aksie-BKA/116298045063416
