Disabled Inus Lourens, 36 born with Down's Syndrome, clung to his Bible while under attack in Baillie Park from 3 black street-thugs: 2013-07-19 -- Mr Inus Lourens, 36, a disabled Afrikaner man with Down Syndrome, clung on for dear life to his Bible while an armed black male gang attacked him while he was out for his usual stroll through Grimbeek Park next to the golf-course on Sunday-afternoon. His sister Izelle Kruger, 45, who cares for Inus at her home, said her brother might have been born with Down's Syndrome, but 'he is bible-smart'. Suddenly three black males grabbed Lourens, plucking him around while he screamed for help - and hanging on for dear life to the only thing which was important to him: his Bible, his faith."Fortunately next to the golf-course his screams were heard - and moreover it turned out to be people who knew us. They immediately jumped on a golf-cart and chased the attackers,' she said.Luck was on their side and two of the three men were captured in a citizen's arrest while the alerted SAPS were on the scene quick as a flash - and arrested the third thug. Lourens wasn't injured, but the disabled Afrikaner was robbed of his cellphone and wallet - which the police handed back to him. "The cards are gone, but that's the least of the problem.'His clothes were torn. "The hands of the Lord were held over my brother," says Izelle."He was very badly traumatised and so shaken that he couldn't even remember my telephone number so that I culd be contacted. She praised the SAPS for the 'incredibly beautiful way in which they handled my brother.'"He was weeping and traumatised.' She said her brother doesn't cry easily and doesn't show his emotions often."Even after our parents died he blocked it out, he doesn't talk about it.' As soon as Lourens arrived back home, he tore off all his clothes and gave them away - so that he could forget the experience. 'He said he never wants to think about it again,' said Izelle. The SAPS unfortunately had to release the three arrested males. "They are all street-"kids: - people who lie about their ages, their addresses, they have no ID-documents, the police gets disheartened because they have no legal hold on those guys.' Ms Kruger believes the SAPS' 'hands are cut off under the present law dealing with such 'youths'. And Lourens? He's too terrified to leave home now - but 'he will never forget their faces'... he said."It's bad that such things happen but it did have a good ending,' said Izelle."We are so grateful for all the help we have had, all the phone calls, and all the support. One doesn't realise how much people really care until you land in such a situation'.-- - It was published on the Boere Krisis Aksie (B.K.A.) facebook page on July 19 2013 - . https://www.facebook.com/pages/Boere-Krisis-Aksie-BKA/116298045063416?ref=ts&fref=ts
