Survived 30 stabs: Miemie Delport (52) of Mooilande smallholdings outside Drie Riviere Vereeniging recovering in hospital after she was stabbed 30 times by a black male gardener she had recently hired on Monday March 17 2014. (She has a home and two flats on her smallholding. She lives in one of the flats and rents out the house and the other flat. Her daughter moved in with her recently.) Her brother Charles Ellis told Maroela Media that the tenants of the house moved out two weeks ago and left the place behind in a very neglected state. So she was referred by one of her employees to a gardener to clean the house and its erf. On Monday-morning she was enroute to her business in Drie Riviere at 08h00 when the gardener stopped her in the driveway, telling her he needed more cleaning rags. Her daughter had already left for her job. "Miemie drove back to her apartment, climbed from the car, leaving it idling, and went inside. When she turned around the man was behind her in the house and stabbed her in her back and head.' His sister grabbed the neighbourhood watch emergency radio and screamed for help. The man slapped the radio from her hands and stabbed her.. She fell to the ground and the man fled: grabbing her wallet and cellphone from her car as he ran. She picked up the radio again and called the neighbourhood watch. An amublance took her to the MediClinic in vanderbijlpark: the brother said the doctors treated her until 16h00 in the emergency treatment unit and then she was moved to ICU. The volunteers at the neighbourhood watch moved quickly and captured the knifeman about 500m from the Delport flat - with her wallet, cellphone and a knife in his possession. The wallet was emptied of cash. "My sister suffers much pain and a bit confused but stabilised. She will undergo surgery for the broken arm on Tuesday. She will remain in ICU for a while to make certain the wounds do not get infected.'
