Impoverished Afrikaner Gerald Deysel and 7-member family flee for their lives from stone-throwing black men surrounding their home.
-- Mathilde Myburgh of the Record reported on 19 March 2014
Gerald Deysel, 47 and his extended family had to flee the Durban Deep mine-company house in Johannesburg
on Saturday night 15 March when they were put under a violent bombardment by at least four black stone-throwers who had started to break down reticulation pipes and stole the family's electricity generator.
The Deysel family is comprised of the parents, their 22-year-old son's fiancee and his two little grandchildren.
The family had to leave all their belongings behind and fled with the clothes on their backs.
Deysel told the record newspaper a day after their terrifying ordeal that
their lives have collapsed. They don't know what to do nor where to go.
The family's problems started on Saturday-afternoon when an unknown black male started cutting open reticulation pipes at the house and
started to remove them. Gerald chased him off. The black man had simply started moving on the property where several families are in residence and started bashng at the pipes with a hammer.
Deysel said a neighbouring woman asked him to help chase the man away and after this we were very wary and scared.'
The Deysel couple were struggling to make a living, and used a small electricity generator to
cook their food on and watch TV. "We knew something was going to happen and when the TV switched off we knew 'this is it'. "My son and I rushed out and saw four unknown black men carrying off our electricity-generator.
The men attacked the family with stones, injuring the son's leg."Then another man attacked my dog with a hammer and I tackled him," said Deysel.
During the struggle he broke one of his pinkies. The two Deysel men rushed back inside the small house, barricading the door behind them.
Apparently this made the thieves decide to attack the family and stones started raining on the house.
Deysel fetched his little grand-daughters from their room and the entire fled on foot.
They have been left homeless and totally destitute. They literally need everything.
