Afrikaner pensioner Charles Groenewald 76 shot dead Monday May 12 2014 on his Boschkop smallgholding. Nothing robbed. Wife survives strangling attempt. Maroela Media writes that Groenewald's 74-year-old wife opened the couple's shop Charlie"s General Dealer at around 08h00 next to their home. Two men entered the shop saying they wanted to buy flour. Groenewald opened the door to the two men and one of them attacked her and started strangling her. The other person went inside the homestead to the rear bedroom where Mr Groenewald was still asleep. A struggle erupted between the two men and Groenewald was shot in his chest. He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The couple have lived in the area for about 40 years. "Everybody knew Uncle Charlie and it was a big shock.' The two suspects fled the scene. One was found later near the scene: he died from a shot in the stomach. Nothing was 'robbed' said the police spokeswoman. They are still searching for the second suspect..
