Murder: Mark Phillips stabbed and bludgeoned to death: no motive: Rusoord flats, Beach Road Amanzimtoti
June 9 2014 Monday: Jenny Bipat reports in South Coast Sun, KZN: "THE family of Mark Phillips who was murdered in his flat in Beach Road, Toti had tried to make contact with him four days before his body was found on Monday, 9 June.
“His sister contacted him on Friday, 6 June to meet up with him later that evening, but he did not make the appointment.
She tried calling him but got no response.
On Saturday, 7 June, she visited his flat and left a note under his door for him to contact her,” said Capt Charlene van der Spuy,
communications officer at Toti SAPS.
Having still not heard from Phillips on Monday, 9 June, she filed a missing person’s report at Toti police station, as it was unlike him not to reply or respond to messages.
It was established, he was last seen by his colleagues on early Friday afternoon.
When the SAPS was asked to investigate, Mr Phillips was found dead in a seated position in front of the television.
“His head and face were covered with a tracksuit top and he was covered in blood.
A broken baseball bat covered with a towel was found in a basin in the bathroom.
It appeared he had been stabbed and (then) hit with the baseball bat.”
His car, a brown Renault Modus, was found abandoned in Newstead Road, Umbilo.
A case of murder is being investigated by Toti detectives. No arrests have been made.
