Ernest Mashudu Nevhulamba, 19 of the Bokfontein squatter camp near Brits, was found
guilty by the Pretoria High Court for the murder of Beres Jobling, 56, on his farm near Brits. He beat the Afrikaner farmer to death after strangling him, he testified. He said he and two mates smoked marijuana before they killed Jobling. The 19-year-old squatter camp resident said he and his two school mates murdered Jobling in his homestead and then dumped his body int he nearby rivier. They took Jobling's cellphone, bakkie, wallet and ring. Nevhulamba was arrested after the killers crashed Jobling's bakkie and were taken to a hospital. The police traced the bakkie back to Jobling and found his body the next day. The other two suspects - Tsepang Mosito and David Thebereng, had their murder- and robbery cases split from Venhulamba's trial because they pleaded not guilty. Their trial only starts in May 2015. SAPA reports that Jobling was a direct descendant of Voortrekker leader Andries Pretorius and still lived on a portion of the original Pretorius farm. He was a well-known historican and the chairman of the Hartbeespoort Environmental and Heritage Foundation. Nevhulamba explained in his plea-submission to court that he, Tsepang and David first smoked dagga - then David sugested that they should go and 'borrow a car from a white man'. They went to the Jobling farm and walked into his homestead where Jobling was watching TV. They grabbed Jobling by the neck and started to strangle him - Tshepang used an electric cable, and then Nevhulamba beat the farmer to death with an iron bar.
They looted items from his body before dumping Jobling in the river - a gold ring and his wallet. The group then went in the bakkie to a shebeen (tavern) where they boozed up. The following day they crashed Jobling's bakkie and were taken to hospital and arrested. Nevhulamba claimed that he 'knew he had committed a crime and accepts full responsibility. He was sorry he said. Judge Tsifiwa Maumela postponed the trial to 13 November 2014 for a sentencing-report.
