September 19 2014: Armed robberies targeting families in their own homes increased by 105.3 percent over past 10 years - (the latest crime stats are 7 months old. They do NOT provide demographic details) PLEASE NOTE - The 'murder' statistics and the 'culpible homicide' statistics are maintained seperately. The murder statistics are the top line of the stats whereas the culpible homicide stats are on the 6th line from the bottom. Most Western countries' police statistics do not maintain these two categories seperately. In South Africa they do. These need to be added up together if one wants to compare the 'Western countries' murder/homicide statistics with those of South Africa. All the statistics are provided at 100,000 per population group based on the national population size at the last Census in 2011... Thus all calculations of the NUMBER of crimes must be made from the crime statistics provided by the South African police. The South African Police Service crime statistics also do not maintain seperate statistics on farm attacks. They claim these are 'ordinary crimes'.
