Sixteen males aged from 23 to 71 years, were arrested for murdering two family members, an unnamed woman 64 and a man 59 and torching their homes. Possibly land-dispute or witchcraft: The SAPS reports from King Williams town:
Sixteen (16) suspects, aged between 23 and 71 years have been arrested for the murder of two (2) family members at Green Location, Mvuzi Administrative Area, Mount Frere on the 9th of September 2014 at about 14:00.
It is alleged that a 64 year old female and a 59 year old male were assaulted and murdered by the suspects who also burnt the deceased’s homes. The motive for the murders is not known at this stage but allegations of “witch-craft” and a possible land dispute between the deceased and other community members are also making the rounds. The suspects will soon appear in the Mount Frere Magistrate Court, facing murder and arson charges.
"We strongly condemn this type of violent and unlawful behaviour and request the community to stand together and stop these illegal actions. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands and under no circumstances will we allow this to happen.
Those responsible for the murders will be brought before court,” said Lt General Celiwe Binta earlier today.
