Hatecrime: Steve van Staden 78, hijacked, assaulted while tied up and dumped at roadside overnight: attack by three black males on Monday pm in Welkom FreeState - previously unreported incident occurred on August 13 2014. His daughter Lolita de Coning saw her father's hijacked car on Tuesday, driven by a black man with two more black passengers - and she courageously gave chase until the car stopped. She confronted the black driver who first claimed it was his father's car - but then he ran away. Mr Van Staden's wallet with all his money and bank cards were still in his pocket, in other words the South African police's pathetic claim that this was just 'normal crime' or a 'robbery gone wrong' was a lie. This frail old man was brutally assaulted only because he was white, writes Marius Avenant. "They saw him as a vulnerable old white man." They took his cellphones to stop him from calling for help. Mr van Staden suffers from a heart condition and is a diabetic. He is currently in hospital.
