Missing: crime feared: Family of missing Parow forensic detective Gert Marais, 44, disappeared without a trace on 14 December 2014 Jan 5 2015: If he's not back by his daughter's birthday I know something is very badly wrong, said the wife of missing Parow Detective Marietjie Marais. Her husband Gert, 44, disappeared without a trace on 14 December. He was last seen at 17:00 at the family home in Melt brink Street, Parow."Since then his phone is off and no money was withdrawn from his back account, Marietjie told Maroela Media, the publication of Afriforum human-rights group. The couple's oldest daughter Danélle celebrates her 20th birthday on 8 January. Marietjie says the family is very distraught. The couple also have a 16 year old daughter Elandi. Gert is a sturdily-built man, 1,9metre tall, weights 108 kg. Last time he was seen he wore a red-white check shirt, khaki shorts and carried a green DeLaRey bag with him. He has blue eyes, grey hair. He is scars from injuries on his left arm and neck. "He requires medical treatment and very likely is very depressive'. "The heartbreak just makes me weep all the time, the uncertainty is making me lose my self-control. I pray that the Good Lord will protect Gert and send him back home."I will keep hoping that Gert is alive and well until proven otherwise, Lord please save him,' she wrote on the facebook page and the website which was created to create awareness of his being missing.
