Survived: Pensioners Johan and Rosa van der Walt: attacked in bed by three black gunmen: Rose shot, injured:
Feb 17 2015 - Witpoortjie: Johan van der Walt felt the bullet which hit his wife Rosa zip past his face when three black gunmen attacked the pensioners in their bed on 18 februar 2015.
The pensioners woke up just after 2am. The couple's son Hannes told 'The News' that his dad was attacked first by one of the blacks trying to strangle him with his hands."That's when my mom started kicking him and hitting him with her knobkierie and the attacker fell to the ground,' said Hannes.
She screamed : turn on the alarm' and one gunman turned his rifle towards her and shot her beneath her right arm.
The bullet went through her and burrowed into the wall of their bedroom. The attackers calmly left the bedroom. 'They weren't in a hurry', said Hannes."My dad went to fetch his handgun from the save and still saw the attackers standing around outside and chat at the gate before they climbed over the wall.'
Nothing was robbed. The Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) was called.
Rosa was taken to the Leratong Hospital.
Frik van zyl of the neighbourhood watch said 'housebreakings' (he didn't refer to this attack as an attempted murder, even though nothing was robbed and a woman was shot)...
