Elise du Preez 94 was murdered, friends say: doctor signed 'natural death' certificate before final pathology-report is known:
---------------"Friends still suspect foul play"- Thu, 5 December 2013
GEORGE NEWS - Since the George Herald front page report about the death of Elise du Preez (94), her friend Lienie Nel has been relentlessly knocking on doors seeking answers.
Colonel Sandile Matiwane paid a visit to Nel last week promising to produce the coroners' report. This follows after an inquest into the death of Du Preez was done at Nel's request. "I have been waiting for five weeks now and if she died from natural causes, then it should be a simple matter to give me a copy thereof," said Nel who feels possible 'murder' clues are disappearing into thin air.
Nel found Du Preez lying in her bedroom on Sunday 13 October with her bed on her head."Both hospital doctors who treated her, said she had serious head injuries on both sides of her head (front and back), broken cheek bones, a broken elbow and was suffering from haemorrhaging on the brain." She had lain semi-comatose for three days before being found by Nel, unable to recall what had happened. She died a week later. A third (private) doctor then signed a document stating that she had died of natural causes.
Police Capt Malcolm Pojé said the George detective branch is still investigating.
"The final autopsy report by the pathologist is still awaited. We therefore cannot convert the case to a murder case as there is no indication or evidence that currently support this notion by Mrs Nel and other concerned people. However, should the final autopsy report indicate any foul play, the investigation will be converted as such. The final report will only be released to the investigating officer after the results of histology tests have been received from the laboratory. The investigating officer is frequently in contact with Mrs Nel who is informed of the latest regarding the investigation. Therefore we shall not divulge any more details pertaining to the investigation."
