Chinese shopkeeper Jack Feng 52 critically injured after frantic machete-attack by four black 'robbers' - but Naspers newspaper emphasises that the mother of one of the 'robbers' made her son give himself up to the Welkom SAPS...
Tuesday 7 Jan 2014 - Welkom. "A Goldfields robber being sought for attempted murder and armed robbery took a taxi to the Welkom police station yesterday to turn himself in.
His mother made him do it.' Meanwhile the victim of the robber and his two mates, Jack Feng 52, is in a critical condition at the Odendaalsrust hospital."He was left behind for dead after his attack by knives and pangas (machetes), writes Volksblad newspaper. "A witness who saw the robbers crash the getaway car in a gutter called the police who arrested two of the men and recovered the stolen goods.But the third man fled.'
Mrs Michelle Feng said her husband was enroute from their home to their next-door shop at 07h00 to open up when three men jumped across the fence and ambushed him at the entrance.
She stormed out when Jack screamed and was also tied up by the men who stole their Audi, cellphones, the shop's cash and keys and fled.
Warrant officer Bones Benecke of the Welkom K9 unit got a call from a friend who'd witnessed the Audi crashing in a gulley near an old gold mine.
He rushed to the old Western Holdings- goldmine's Nr 6 shaft where he saw three men run away. He captured one, called in reinforcements
and a second man was also caught and all the stolen goods recovered. They also found marijuana amongst the robbers' private property.
The forensic and fingerprint expert w/o Casper van Heerden established direct links to the suspects and the machete attack on Mr Feng.
When the police went looking for the third robber at his home he wasn't there: but his mother called him and told him to 'do the right thing and turn yourself in."
