"The Daily Sun" South Africa, Jan 21 2014: Wakeville Ekurhuleni - Thomas Sithole claims his boss drove over his foot. He was hoping for a Christmas present from his boss - but he got a broken leg! The 42-year-old employee of an engineering company in Wadeville, Ekurhuleni says his boss knocked him over with his car after he accused him of refusing to work overtime.Thomas said his problems started on 6 December at a Christmas party held for the workers. “We were enjoying ourselves when I overheard the boss speaking to someone, saying I was refusing to work overtime.“He called me after a while and said he had a present for me and we had to collect it,” said Thomas. He went with his boss to the parking area in the building’s basement.
“I expected him to give me a present, but instead he got into his car and drove towards me. I screamed because I thought he was going to kill me. He drove over my leg and I felt like I was dying,” said Thomas.“I passed out from the pain and later woke up in hospital. “Nurses told me the bones in my left foot were broken. I spent two weeks in hospital and I’m still in pain. I want my boss to be arrested.”Thomas said the reason he refused to work overtime was that he had no means of getting to work. “There is no transport after 6pm and it’s dangerous. I was once kidnapped by thugs in a car - I thought it was a taxi. They robbed me and dumped me in an isolated spot,” he said.
“I told my boss that it was not safe for me to work late but he never bothered to help me find a solution.” Thomas’ employer, Mark Baller, denied hitting him with his car. My car never touched him. The matter is being handled by the cops,” he said. The Elsburg police confirmed that a case of attempted murder was opened but said no arrests had been made. They are investigating.
