A truck was torched, motorists' fled for their lives from stones raining down from 'protestors', the road to the township of Nyakallong was barred on Wednesday night. The SAPS said a fertiliser truck was torched, a vehicle of Protea Coin security was targeted by stone-throwers, a police constable was injured when a brick was thrown in his face; and they are also investigating a man shot dead during the rioting and two armed robberies. Two organiseers of the 'protest march' were arrested and mine-security is on high alert, awaiting further problems. The 'disgruntled group', says Captain Stephen Thakeng of the SAPS, consists of about 600 'youths' who are targeting the gold mine, demanding jobs. They threw their massive, violent temper tantrum on Wednesday night, angered when their formal application for a 'protest march' to the mine was refused. They wanted to hold this 'march' to 'demand jobs'. That night the 600 'job-seekers' barred the road between Allanridge and Odendaalsrus with large cement pipes and rocks. And the very first truck which passed them and was forced to stop at the barrier, loaded with (highly flammable) fertiliser, was torched. SAPS called in reinforcements and mine security rushed in, using stun grenades to chase the 'job seekers' away. And the SAPS received a report from a 'foreign businessman' which Volksblad failed to identify, that he had been robbed by two armed black men. After the riots at 23h00, the SAPS were notified that the body of a man was found shot to death with the businessman's stolen goods in his possession. Councillor, Sam Weyers, from the department of labour registered the youth in the area as work seekers and also gave them a list of skills they can acquire to increase their prospects of getting employed. “Helpful skills that these youth can acquire are, among others, computer literacy, technical skills and writing and communication skills. These can be acquired at any college and will make a positive addition to a CV,” he added. An official of the department of special programmes of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Bongani Mabuza, said the municipality was pleased to be a part of this initiative. “This initiative seeks to arm the youth of Nyakallong with knowledge and skills to find employment, which we believe will make the youth independent instead of them sitting around waiting for the government to come up with solutions,” said Mabuza. He said the municipality has set up a skills development programme that will kick off next month for the unemployed youth of Nyakallong. The sessions will be held every Friday from the first Friday of March and will consist of career exhibitions. “We believe there are employment opportunities in the country. We need unemployed people to be pro-active in creating themselves a brighter future,” said Mbabo. On arrival it was reported that at approximately 15h30 a male was walking up Ryde Place in Durban North carrying his 2 year old son, when he was accosted by three black males armed with knives. Die jong swart vrouedokter aan diens, P. Mkhize, het toe weer die gebrek aan portiere opgehaal. Ons het toe min of meer uit desperaatheid self die bed daar uitgestoot en met die hulp van die privaat paramedici buite my pa tot in die ongevalle-afdeling gekry. Kosbare minute het verbygesnel. Uiteindelik het ‘n suster aangewaggel gekom en hy is op ‘n ondersoektafel geplaas. “Dit alles het reg in die middel van die ongevalle-afdeling plaasgevind. Reg langsaan was die dolleë afdeling met monitors en suurstof waar my pa behandel sou kon word indien dit hul erns was. Daar was egter geen haas om hom soontoe te neem nie. Hulle het my pa daar op sy sy gedraai en reg voor ons het hy sy laaste asem uitgeblaas. Dié oomblik sal my altyd bybly. “Eers toe hy dood was, het die suster aan diens hom na die saaltjie met lewensondersteunende apparaat geneem en bevestig dat hy dood was. Hierna is hy na die hospitaal se lykshuis oorgeplaas. Ons het daar in die Ongevalle gesit en huil terwyl die personeel maak asof hulle ons nie raaksien nie. Toe verklaar hulle op die doodsverslag dat hy reeds dood was toe hy by die hospitaal aangekom het, iets wat ons natuurlik betwis het, want hy het nog asem gehaal toe hy op die ondersoektafel geplaas is!” Met die stygende koste van mediese fondse, is meer en meer blankes, veral ouer persone, genoodsaak om hul tot staatshospitale te wend. In baie gevalle word privaat mediese fondse ook uitgeput en moet selfs mense met mediese fondse insgelyks in staatshospitale behandeling ontvang. Sommige sterf weens gebrek aan behandeling by ongevalle-afdelings, terwyl ander oor etlike dae weens nalatige of gebrekkige behandeling toegelaat te word om dood te gaan. In die geval van mnr. Hank Janse van Vuuren, is hy op 26 Maart 2013 by die Oliver Tambo-gedenkhospitaal opgeneem en met ‘n bloeiende maagseer gediagnoseer. Volgens beskikbare mediese inligting op die internet, vereis so ‘n toestand noodbehandeling en onmiddellike chirurgie. ‘My broer is gelos om soos ‘n dier in die veld te sterf’ In haar verslag skryf mev. Ruthven, sy suster, dat hy “gelos is om soos ‘n dier in die veld te sterf’. Op sy doodsertifikaat is vermeld dat hy aan ‘n hartaanval dood is. “Nee,” skryf sy, “my broer is weens nalatigheid dood. Hank is op 28 Maart 2013 om 20:05 oorlede. Ná drie dae in die die hospitaal! Indien sy prognose nie goed was nie, waarom het geen van die personeel ons in kennis gestel nie, maar hom bloot gelos om soos ‘n dier in die veld te sterf? Dis nie algemene gebruik nie, dis nalatigheid met ‘n misdadige bedoeling!” Die oggend van mnr. Janse van Vuuren se oorlye, het ‘n saalsuster nog teenoor mev. Ruthven om 9:00 per telefoon bevestig dat dit met hom “goed gaan”. Toe sy egter met die besoekuur om 15:00 daar aankom, vind sy hom in ‘n ernstige toestand, met “swaar asemhaling, erge pyn, ietwat deurmekaar, sweterig en bleek, met klewerige bloed in sy mond en neus.” Daar was tekens dat daar nie goed na hom gekyk word nie, want die klokkie werk nie, sy drup lek en daar is ‘n plas bloed op die vloer. Volgens sy lêer het niemand sedert 6:00 die oggend na hom omgesien nie. Toe sy na die suster aan diens vra, hoor sy dat dié “met ete is en eers 16:00 terug sal wees”. Haar broer was toe, ongeveer vier ure voor sy dood, nog voldoende by sy positiewe om aan haar te sê: “Hierdie is nie ‘n goeie saal nie, want die personeel gee nie vir die pasiënte om nie. Dis nie dieselfde as toe ek 8 maande gelede in saal 21 was nie. Hierdie personeel hier, hulle wil net glad nie help nie.” ‘n Medepasiënt van mnr. Janse van Vuuren het reeds die oggend om 6:20 opgemerk het dat dit nie met hom goed gaan nie en dat hy besig was om te bloei. Niemand het egter iets daaraan gedoen nie. Intussen is daar in sy lêer geskryf, sy pols, temperatuur en bloeddruk is geneem, maar niemand het opgemerk dat hy bloei nie. Toe mev. Ruthven die personeel hieroor uitvra, is sy bloot lakonies meegedeel: “Ons het dit nie gesien nie.” ‘Niemand word ongelyk behandel nie’ – Gauteng praag het vandeesweek die Gautengse departement van gesondheid genader vir kommentaar oor mnr. Hank Janse van Vuuren se geval en het mev. Ruthven se verslag met al die besonderhede aangestuur. Die hoofwoordvoerder vir die departement, mnr. Simon Zwane, het egter glad nie daarop gereageer nie. Pleks daarvan, het hy op enkele bykomende vrae oor mnr. Zwane het ontken dat blankes anders behandel word: “Daar is geen getuienis wat suggereer dat mnr. Harper ander behandeling sou ontvang het indien hy blank was nie. [Hierdie sin was vir ons dubbelsinnig - red.] En ons is nie van enige bewys voorsien dat slegs swart personeel na hom omgesien het nie. Daarom sou dit onverantwoordelik wees om tot ‘n rassistiese gevolgtrekking te kom voordat al die feite ondersoek is.” TimesLive het vandeesweek berig dat die 67-jarige mnr. Earl Harper reeds “60 dae lank poog om bekwame mediese behandeling te ontvang”. Volgens TimesLive “voel Harper en sy familie dat hy mishandel is omdat hy blank is”. Op die vraag of die departement bewus is van die ongelyke behandeling of gebrek aan behandeling vir blanke pasiënte en of dit enige klagtes in dié verband ontvang het, afgesien van die geval van mnr. Earl Harper by die Charlotte Maxeke-Johannesburg Algemeen, het mnr. Zwane soos volg geantwoord: “Nee. Hospitale behandel miljoene mense elke jaar en niemand het nog ooit teenoor ons beweer dat hulle ongelyk behandel is vanweë hul velkleur nie.” ‘Hulle maak die mense aspris dood’ Mnr. Dewald Scholtz van Pretoria beweer egter die teendeel en het die volgende verhaal om te vertel: “My vriendin se ma moes ‘n operasie kry. Sy het in die hospitaal gelê met ‘n verstopte derm – ons moes self met ‘n skotteltjie bystaan as dít wat in haar spysverteringstelsel opgebou het bo by haar mond uitloop. Die vrou is ‘n trotse vrou wat haarself altyd perfek versorg – en sy het hulpeloos daar gelê en was besig om dood te gaan. Die gesette swart verpleegsters het ons soos gemors behandel wanneer ons kla. En die operasie is net aanhoudend uitgestel. “Sy sou doodgegaan het as ons nie ingegryp het nie. Ons het haar algemene praktisyn gevra om haar te besoek in die hospitaal en vir ons ‘n verslag en aanbeveling te skryf. Nothing was stolen from the house. ----------------------------- 6 March 2010: the unarmed Mother and daughter Alice 76 and Helen 57 Lotter, impoverished vegetable farmers for the local Allanridge, Free State community -- ( Helen was retired from the Parks Service)-- were attacked by a group of at least six black men. Only her recently hired 'gardener' was charged and found guilty. The investigating officer testified that the two women were barely alive when he found them. Helen Lotter's cervix and uterus were missing because they had been hacked away by broken glass bottes. The medical examiner concluded that she had died from the lower-body injuries 'having been caused by very clear penetration with a sharp object. Her frail mother Alice was similarly mutilated and the mother died of 'asphyxiation after breathing in bood from penetrating stabbing wounds in her neck and throat'. ----------------------- 1 October 2011: The entire THREE-MEMBER Viana family was tortured to death at their smallholding in Walkerville. The family was unarmed. Father Tony was hacked and injured with a machete and then forced to watch as his wife Geraldine was gangraped by two of the 3 black men that attacked them. These these black men took a broken bottle and rammed it into her vagina. Tony begged them not to kill him but after raping, mutilating and murdering his wife they shot him dead. Then they started on the son: Amano, 12, who was crying bitterly while he had to witness what was being done to his parents. Afrikaner farmer Bertus Moolman allegedly shoots dead two black men in Fochville; injures a third: witnessed by a police contingent, the Afrikaner allegedly allegedly fired five shots into a rioting, stone-throwing crowd who were threatening him and his workers, said SAPS: ---------------- Monday 26 Aug 2013 - In an stone-throwing altercation between socalled 'tenants' and Afrikaner farmer Bertus Moolman on a farm next to the Bank Road outside Fochville, at the Carletonville mining region) he allegedly fired shots with a shotgun, shooting dead two black men and injuring a third who were throwing stones at Moolman and his workers. It is believed that the violent altercation took place over purported damage one of his victims had allegedly done to one of Mr Moolman's shebeens and spaza-shops. The police said Mr Moolman owns 'several spaza shops and shebeens' and rents out space to about 2,000 black squatters on his farm - mostly mineworkers. SAPS lt.col Hennie Maass of the Fochville SAPS confirmed that Mr Moolman will be charged with two murders and attempted murder. The shots were fired after Mr Moolman went to talk to a man together with his worker. One of the workers had allegedly assaulted one man with a stock and in response, a group of 'tenants' started throwing stones at them. "Moolman allegedly fired five shots at the men who are tenants on his farm,' said lt-col Maass. This was witnessed by a contingent of SAPS-members who had been called to the farm by Mr Moolman, he said.There had already been unrelatedunrest at the farm the previous weekend when a black man was murdered by an unknown person and people became 'riotous' and packed a stone-barrier on the road on Sunday, said the police officer. One of Moolman's shebeens (pub) was also damaged on that day. Moolman told Beeld newspaper that he was forced to shoot in self-defence. "Some of the tenants became riotous when we went to talk to the man who, we'd been told, had damaged the shebeen,' he said. "The crowd threw us with stones and if I hadn't shot, we would all have died.' He said he carried a 9mm pistol and his shotgun with him. Beeld questioned Louis Nel, a Fochville resident who informed the Afrikaans daily newspaper that Mr Moolman had been renting out land for housing mineworkers for the past twenty years. "They raise their own structures. It creates a lot of problems for the community, as the miners then sublet the land again to others,' said Mr Nel. They have even built 'an informal electrical substation from stones, making 'several connections to the Eskom power cables'. Beeld also quoted one of Mr Moolman's tenants as saying that there had been several rapes and thefts in the area. "We are holding a protest march about this, we are sick and tired of it,' she said. Chatsworth Indian-SA pensioner Jamwathie Rampharan 70: skull cracked, teeth broken: 4 black males assault at her Montford home in excessive violence. Fourth attack within four months, says son ----------------------------- Pensioner sustains multiple injuries including a cracked skull and broken teeth after being robbed and assaulted at her Montford home. 27 August 2013 - Following the incident, a highly traumatised Jamwathie Rampharan, who resides in Road 725, Montford is afraid to return to her home in fear that she may be targeted again by criminals who are on the prowl and is therefore now residing with her son and his wife to ensure her safety. Speaking on behalf of his elderly mother, Charles Rampharan, 43, said that this is the fourth robbery in the last five months whereby his mother became a victim. He said, “Apart from a domestic worker residing with her, my mother is all alone. To make extra money and also keep herself busy, she runs a tuck shop. In the last five months, my mother’s house and her tuck shop has been robbed several times. However, the recent incident definitely proved to be much worse. At this point, we are just thankful she is alive.” Rampharan explained how his mother had awakened early last Saturday morning to complete her chores as she always did. “At the time, her domestic worker was outside completing the laundry. The four suspects who wore balaclavas, gloves and masks entered the premises while the domestic worker was going about completing her chores. My mother had just come out from the bathroom when she was confronted by the four suspects who were also armed with guns and knives. After holding her at gunpoint, they began assaulting her,” Rampharan said. After assaulting the pensioner and also cracking open her head with the butt of the gun, the suspects then ransacked the entire premises and left with the victim’s jewellery, an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuables. Mrs Rampharan sustained a number of injuries from the assault including a broken arm, fractured ribs, a cracked skull and also had some of her teeth broken when she was viciously hit with the gun. “The audacity of these criminals is deploring. They had no right to attack an elder who could not defend herself. As a family, we demand that the suspects are brought to book. It is the only way we will receive closure. We are counting on the law and the SAP to assist us in getting justice,” added Rampharan. Deborah Lynn Greaves of Centurion wins R50,000 damages: SAPS locked her 5 hours in cell with 8 men: Pretoria High Court ruled that Mrs Deborah Lynn Greaves of Centurion must receive R50,000 in damages plus court-costs from the SAPS because she had been arrested, driven to Sunnyside SAPS station, and dumped in a cell with eight men. Mrs Greaves was arrested after a black security guard had misunderstand her request to 'Open The Boom', and thinking she'd told him 'You Baboon', the irate man had her arrested for 'racism'. Next thing she was arrested, driven in the back of a police van to the Sunnyside police station and locked up for the next five hours in a communal cell with eight men. It is completely illegal and immoral to dump any woman in a cell with males. Now Deborah Lynn Greaves of Centurion has won R50 000 from the police. Greaves, 50, of Centurion instituted a R300 000 damages claim against the minister of police following her ordeal. Her nightmare started when she was due to attend a training course at a conference facility in Sunnyside. She tried to park inside a basement parking garage but was told by the security guard that parking was reserved and she should park in the street. Greaves said she had previously parked inside, even though she did not have an access card. That day, she parked in the street but when she returned the next day, she again tried to park inside. Again she was denied entry, but this time, she said, the security guard was aggressive and screamed at her. He wanted her to park outside. She phoned a colleague to arrange parking inside the parking garage for her, as she felt her car was unsafe outside. The colleague handed her his access card so she could drive into the basement. But when she left that afternoon, the security guard refused to open the boom for her to exit. Greaves said she told him to “open the boom” and that “the way in which you do things is stupid”. He apparently mistook what she told him as “you are a baboon” and that he was “stupid”. Nevertheless, he opened the boom and she drove off. She returned the following day and while attending training she was called by the course co-ordinator. He told her the police were waiting for her outside. She was told by two policemen that she was under arrest. Greaves was threatened that if she did not get into the police van, she would be cuffed. The police drove her at high speed to the Sunnyside police station. She said she was terrified and was being thrown around in the back of the van. At the police station she was told that she was being held for crimen injuria. She had to spend five terrifying hours in a cell with men, under conditions she described as filthy. Her lawyer had her freed on a warning at about five that afternoon. Greaves said she was so traumatised that she had to receive counselling from a psychiatrist, who diagnosed her with post-traumatic stress disorder. 27 August 20013: Two Afrikaner men and an abused three-year-old boy's mother, 19, appeared in Vanderbijlpark magistrate's court, charged with attempted murder, child abuse and assault. The SAPS has reportedly had confiscated a torture-video taken by the mother's brother, 18, showing how the mother's boyfriend, 29, had repeatedly shocked a "three-year-old, blonde, blue-eyed boy" with a stungun; how the child was cursed in vile language, and had been beaten so brutally that he was left black and blue in the face and all over his body. The child-protection authorities said the bruises weren't all from this beating: some were older. The mother, 19, and her brother, 18, were released on R1,000 bail, but the older man, 27 (not identified: it's not known if he is a relative) was kept in detention because he was also being sought for other alleged assaults, said the SAPS. The child was removed to a place of safety and is being treated for his trauma. A neighbour reported the horrific attack against the child - which also wasn't the first time : his one-year-old sister already was removed earlier by a social welfare organisation but for some inexplicable reason they had left behind the three-year-old boy with this clearly abusive family-situation. Beeld writes that 'the situation inside the house is atrocious. The brother had made the video which showed how the boy was being tortured. Beeld was informed that the cursing at the child was horrific and that the contents of the video are 'shocking'. The three are not identified to protect the young victim - which indicates that the 27-year-old man must also be a family member. The mother of the two younger accused people was in the courtroom, described as 'emotional and constantly wriggling her hands' by Beeld. When she stood up to walk to her children in the witness box she was ordered to sit down: no contact was allowed. Her daughter earlier had burst into tears when she saw her mom in court while being brought in from the cells below. SAPS warrant-officer Kinnie Steyn said neighbours had raised the alarm after the child's abuse. The investigating officer warrant-officer Johan Reichert reportedly had confiscated the video - apparently taken by the boy's 18-year-old uncle - purportedly showing that the child was shocked repeatedly by a stun-gun and screaming in agony.
