Human Trafficking is Engulfing South African, warns SA opposition party the Democratic Alliance. Accuses the SA government of 'failing dismally to assist human trafficking victims". (It has also been noticed that it is relatively easy to steal babies from maternity wards in South Africa. A case in Kempton Park on September 7 2013 noted that a young woman had little difficulty in walking up to a mother at the hospital and stealing her baby away from her.) --------------------------- Thursday, 22 August 2013 James Masango, MPL spokesman for social development of the Democratic Alliance party, telephone 082 891 0717, warns that 'human trafficking is engulfing South Africa: Mpumalanga province borders two African countries and is no exception. "The DA is concerned about the Mpumalanga provincial government's 'self-imposed target to assist 21 victims of human trafficking a year: and even worse, it has only managed to help five victims all told. Mpumalanga borders two African countries and is undoubtedly vulnerable to human traffickers, and authorities have to deal with the perpetrators and victims. Apart from the criminal element, human trafficking has serious social consequences for victims who are usually physically and mentally traumatised and require medical and psychological treatment after being rescued. Given the magnitude and repercussions of the problem, it does not make sense that the Mpumalanga government only aims to rehabilitate 21 human trafficking victims this financial year. Furthermore, it aimed to rehabilitate a mere five victims in the first quarter yet shockingly wasn’t even able to meet this miniscule target. These stats certainly beg the question whether the department is taking this serious matter seriously. He said: "Earlier this year the national government committed itself to fighting human trafficking after President Jacob Zuma signed the new Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Bill. This Bill provides a single statute to tackle human trafficking holistically and comprehensively and was praised by NGO’s and law-enforcement authorities. This new legislation creates an offence of trafficking in persons as well as specific offences such as debt bondage, possessing and destroying or tampering with travel documents. It also provides a maximum penalty of R100-million or life imprisonment or both in the case of a conviction. But the real beauty about this Bill is that it also caters for the victims, making it law to provide them with protection and assistance to overcome their traumatic experiences. Judging from the department of Mpumalanga province's Social Development’s latest report it seems to not be adhering to this law. The excuse that there are not social workers to assist is not acceptable given that there are many qualified social workers in the province who were promised jobs by on accepting a government study bursary yet remain unemployed. Surely these individuals could be absorbed by the system to helpwith the human trafficking situation. "The DA will write to the MEC for Social Development, Candith Mashego-Dlamini, questioning the low target and what preparations have been done by the department to effectively implement and enforce this bill. Furthermore as per the quarterly report, victims must be placed in rehabilitation programmes. The DA wants to know whether such programmes exist and if so where are they available and what do they entail? Human trafficking is immoral, undignified and barbaric and everyone, especially government, should play a role in curtailing it and helping those who have been affected by it. The example comes from the top and until the Mpumalanga government takes this matter seriously innocent people, babies and children included, will continue to suffer." Little Deneo then was stolen under the pretence that "the mother will be provided with employment." The SAPS worked around the clock to ensure that the suspect was brought to book. A tip-off was followed up by members of the Welkom Social Crime Prevention until the child was found at Esperanza farm, Welkom district. The child was found and handed back to her parents. This followed after the tip off was received on 16 August 2013 by Lt. Lydia Tsoai the Sector Commander of Phomolong Village. The investigator Warrant Officer Moyane Monei, Welkom Social Crime Prevention personnel under the leadership of Captain Limakatso Qakoshe and members of Tactical Response Team followed up information to the farm Esperanza in Welkom district. Gwambe was charged in the Nelspruit court after her arrest in December 2011. One of the victims told the social worker that Gwambe "had bragged about paying approximately R2 000 per child and selling them for up to R300 000." Her trial will begin on October 21 2013, reports Ferrari - as she had to have her whole case restarted due to her previous defence attorney, Mr MC Mabunda, withdrawing after she blamed him for changing her plea. A new attorney still has to be appointed. She was arrested in December 2011. She was found in a taxi heading to Johannesburg with a baby whom she claimed was hers, confirmed Mpumalanga police spokesman Col Leonard Hlathi. "After the baby didn't want to drink milk from Gwambe, her co-passengers became suspicious. They confronted her and reported the matter to police. When Lebaka was arrested, she told police she had been 'pressurised by her boyfriend's need for a child." The Fundamental Problem (1) National Intelligence Service (NIS) -- Mike Louw, the former head of NIS (National Intelligence Service) told the media in 1994, that the NIS removed "all the names" of informants from its records, before it started the integration process with the intelligence services of the former struggle movements "to protect informants". Names and code names of agents were also removed from the NIS database. -- In 1998 the TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) complained that the massive destruction of records which started in the 1980's and culminated in a "co-ordinated effort' sanctioned by the National Party Cabinet in 1993, had undermined its investigations severely. -- The NIS, Security Police and Defence Force Intelligence Units conducted a "systematic destruction programme" in 1991, 1992 and 1993, according to the TRC report. In 1993, the NIS destroyed 44 tons of paper and microfilm. The NIS became the NIA (National Intelligence Agency), the primary source of leaked information on Bulelani Ngcuka. The point here is that in the light of the above, it appears that not all documents were destroyed on agents, as documents on RS452, given to the media by Mac and Mo shows. Further, it shows the selective usage, manipulation and doctoring of information of the remaining documents are being used to destroy anyone the possessors of these documents chose to discredit. (Ref. Annex 1 - Captain Edwards Reports) (II) Operation Vula - Operation Bible Towards the late eighties, a negotiated settlement to the South African conflict had become a reality. The NIS and the Securocrats of the apartheid regime anticipated that the ANC will have a Plan B in place, in the event of the negotiations failing. This plan B was operation Vula. The NIS was fully aware that the ANC was very conscious of apartheid spies in its ranks. Therefore, the success and launch of its Plan B (Operation Vula) will be determined by its ability to clear from a security perspective cadres to be used in Operation Vula. -- The NIS then formulated a plan to counter and take control of the ANC's Plan B. -- The opportunity arose while Mo and Yunus Shaik were in detention in 1985. They both broke and admitted that they were in the ANC underground. Mo also learnt to drink brandy and coke with his newly acquired handlers. They were released and not charged as members of a banned organisation. To build their credibility with the ANC underground command in Swaziland, the NIS/ Security branch allowed Mo and his brothers to bring Ebrahim Ishmael Ebrahim into the country from Swaziland and to hold meetings with other ANC underground members in the country, without arresting any of them. They then allowed Ebrahim Ishmael Ebrahim to return to Swaziland safely, only later to kidnap him from Swaziland. This boosted Mo and his brothers' credibility across the ANC divide and everyone ignored their detention and the fact that they were recruited by NIS. Mac Maharaj was over the moon with this operation as he was part of the planning stages of Operation Vula and will need to get into South Africa as head of Vula. This NIS operation with Mo and his brothers eventually led to Operation Bible, which NIS based on the Double Cross System, used by the British against the Germans during the Second World War. Jacob Zuma and Mac Maharaj had by now become unconscious agents of the Apartheid Regime with the ANC Intelligence totally compromised at a strategic level. Mac's over-zealousness in trying to be a legend and Jacob Zuma, as head of ANC Intelligence, with his legendary laziness and incompetence helped the process. Operation Bible was a complicated NIS operation. NIS gave up a few of its agents, but cleared the majority of its agents to become part of Operation Vula. Further, a large number of ANC cadres became part of Operation Bible and Operation Vula without knowing that they were working under the direction and command of the Apartheid Intelligence Services. Further, Operation Bible labelled a large number of ANC cadres as spies so as to divide the ANC and to destroy its seasoned cadres. Mac Maharaj, as head of Operation Vula, was brought into the country by Mo Shaik and another NIS agent. Further, Mac lived with this NIS agent in a flat in Roslyn Heights Overport, Durban. In short, Mac Maharaj was working for the Apartheid Regime's Security forces without knowing it. Thus Operation Vula, under Mac Maharaj, was used by Stratcom to direct negotiations by destroying the ANC underground and its capacity to bargain from a position of strength. Charles Ndaba and Mbuso Shabalala, both Vula operatives, were killed by Mo`s handlers, so as to protect his identity as a NIS agent. (III) Post Apartheid South Africa In the build up to the first democratic Elections, those cadres who participated in the NIS directed Operation Vula were given prominence by the media, apartheid intelligence infrastructure and the international media thus giving them a high profile amongst the militant masses of our people. Thus securing them top strategic jobs at all levels of the new government and the ANC. Mo Shaik was appointed to head the integration of the ANC-DIS. He made sure that the NIS agents in Vula as well as the NIS operatives were put in control of the new Intelligence Services of the democratic South Africa. Thus the continuity of the former NIS operatives and their agents took control. The parallel intelligence structure to the democratic State was embedded, with the control shared by the "Indian Cabal" headed by Mac Maharaj and the former apartheid operatives. Their first engagement was to get rid of Thabo Mbeki and make Cyril Ramaphosa the first Deputy President of the RSA. They used their parallel structures as well as their network in the SACP, COSATU, "Indian Cabal" and the UDF network. Chris Hani refused to support them and pushed for Thabo Mbeki. This resulted in Chris Hani being set up by these forces, using the Right Wing, with Ricky Nkondo making the telephone call from Shell House to Chris's body guards to leave his house, resulting in his assassination. Since then, this network, especially within the Intelligence Community (NIA/SASS/CIS/DI) has been mobilising and building support and infrastructure for the removal of Thabo Mbeki and replace him with the compliant Jacob Zuma. The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) South Africa does not have an effective intelligence capability. The NIA is under the strategic control of Mac/Mo/Zuma axis. This includes the Director-General, Vusi Mavimbela and most of the senior management officials. There are also many patriotic officers. (a) A large number of NIA officials had been involved in criminal activities and total abuse of power. Ayob Mungalee, handled by the NIA's Gretha Bezuidenhout, was arrested on the 24/02/99 with four Pagad members at a road block in the Karoo, transporting explosives. -- Bungled NIA bugging of the German Embassy and attempted Recruitment of the Embassy staff in 1999. Andre Lincoln claimed, Arthur Fraser, NIA Head Western Cape offered him inducements that included a sentence of correctional supervision and a plush job if he takes the rap. Placing surveillance equipment in the court of Judge John Foxcroft during the high profile case of Pagad. -- The former Inspector-General of Intelligence, Faizal Randera, responded to the NIA report on Ramaphosa involvement in a coup against Mbeki with US support: "The public wants to be reassured that the NIA is not behaving like a rogue element and gathering information on bona fide political activity." ------------- The removal by the NIA of 34 boxes of Truth and Reconciliation Committee documents -- On the 27/02/99, top police investigator Henry Beukes said in the Pagad case (Oudtshoorn) that "communication between the police and the NIA has deteriorated so badly that under cover agents who have infiltrated Pagad"could be killed by police unaware that they are acting under orders". Further Beukes testified in court that Mungalee's NIA handler asked him to change his statement implicating the NIA, that the intelligence agency asked him to courier explosives to Cape Town. ------- On the 04/08/00, opposition parties reacted with indignation to an attempt by military intelligence to recruit reporters as informers and requested an investigation by the Inspector General. ------- MISSING R300-MILLION On the 14/09/00, an independent audit into the alleged misuse and possible misappropriation of R300 million earmarked for retraining ex-combatants has been forwarded to the office of the Auditor-General for further investigation. ------- In 1998, Thabo Kubu NIA strategic general manager was arrested for trying to cash share certificates worth more than R180-million. He was in charge of a special unit set up to probe the misappropriation of state funds under apartheid. Other charges against him include irregular activities while in the employ of the NIA, failure to follow NIA recruitment and management policy for sources, failure to keep proper records and failure to declare his business interests. ---------- Advocate Gerda Ferreira, who was leading the probe into Jacob Zuma and Shabir Shaik was assigned body guards after a campaign of intimidation against her. MISSING R768MILLION IN SPY FUND: -- The Auditor-General, Henry Kluever, said South African spies are almost as difficult to control in the era of President Thabo Mbeki as they were under apartheid. NB. These were only the incidents reported in the public domain. There are hundreds of other cases that are swept under the carpet. (B) Modus Operandi The NIA officers are involved in a wide range of political, business and criminal activities, under the political protection of Jacob Zuma. They are involved in industrial espionage. They steal information and technology from South African businesses, parastatals and multinationals, and sell it to anyone or country willing to buy it. In the government tender process, they bug, surveillance and collect information on the different tendering companies and sell the acquired information to competing bidders. Further, they intimidate, harass and threaten members of the committee adjudicating the tender. They also sell information and intelligence to different foreign intelligence agencies for money. They are paid by foreign intelligence agents to spy on different embassies and their staff based in South Africa, using states resources. E.g. the bugging of the German embassy. They are paid by businessmen to run dirty tricks campaigns on their rivals and create false intelligence on gun running, drug dealing, etc on their rivals. Example: Mark Wellesley-Wood CEO and Chairman of Duban Roodepoort Deep (MINE) was declared by the NIA and the former home Affairs Director-General Billy Masetla, a United Kingdom citizen, a prohibited immigrant, on the instructions of Brett Kebble. This was meant to pressurise Wellesley-Wood to drop charges of corruption against Brett Kebble. The Minister of Home Affairs overruled that prohibition. ----------- Almost every business man (black and white) has a few NIA/SASS/CIS/DI members on their payroll. They are also in the payroll of different organised crime groups in the country. The Zimbabwe and Angolan intelligence has a very large number of agents within NIA/SASS/CIS/DI. This has been achieved through business deals in the mining, timber and oil sectors in the DRC and Angola. OIL CONCESSIONS PETROSA MOSSGASS BILLY MASETLA: Whilst on official duties in Africa, they hide behind their government positions to solicit, mining and oil concessions for their clients (BEE) in South Africa. Eg. Billy Masetla went to Sao Tome on government business, but instead looked for oil concessions. ---- NIA is now involved in a major investigation into PetroSA and the Mossgas shut down. This is not their job. It is the task of PetroSAs risk management unit and the insurance companies. NIA is at PetroSA, at the request of Sipho Mkize and Barend Petersen, mainly to try to determine which BEE group gets the empowerment stake in the Sable Oil Field. -------------- Security Clearances The NIA uses its questionable data base to clear or refuse rival businesses and individuals security clearance. This places these individuals and businesses in a difficult situation as they are unable to get employment or business from the state. They get shares and payments to give clearances and to withhold clearances. This is a lucrative business. The refusal by the NIA to clear people politically, for parliamentary jobs, commissions of enquiry, parastatal boards, Transnet, independent institutions of state, SABC board and top jobs within government ensures that Mac/Mo/Jacob Zuma control government processes, as well as ensuring compliant persons are appointed like the Public Protector. -------------- Example: Niko Shaffer is implicated in the UN report on involvement in conflict diamonds and criminal activities but is cleared by the Minister of Intelligence Lindiwe Sisulu, because of his business relationship with her brothers. --------------- South African Revenue Services - VULA network: -- The Vula network has a formidable presence in SARS. Whilst it must be acknowledged the Commissioner is doing a great job, there are serious areas of concern. -- The parallel structures in the NIA/SASS uses SARS, as well as its employees who are part of this network to engage in political and criminal activity, disguised as legal work. Once they are paid to run an operation on an individual or company, the NIA/SASS/CIS/DI produces so called intelligence on the individual or company, which will include drug dealing, money laundering, trading in arms, etc and deposits this file with SARS as high quality tested intelligence. SARS Enforcement Units who are part of this network then begins a campaign to investigate, harass, put on hold forex amnesty, gets customs and exercise involved, thus making it impossible for a company or individual to do business, resulting in the collapse of the business. Further, at a political level, companies of countries that are seen to be supportive of Thabo Mbeki are put under this pressure. Example, Thabo Mbeki goes on an official visit to Canada to attract foreign investment, whilst this NIA/SARS network makes it impossible for Canadian companies to do business in South Africa, all because this network wants to sabotage the Presidents efforts. Similarly, this is done with the Germans and the British. But, because of this network`s link to the French and their support for Zuma, they can do whatever they like. The point is that individuals/companies have no recourse or access to this so called intelligence files in SARS possession, and have to accept this harassment and intimidation, with the only option is to move their business to another country. The result is that Mbeki`s foreign trips to attract foreign investment into South Africa and to create jobs are sabotaged so as to set him up for failure. ============= Thabo Mbeki The failure by the Mac/Mo/Zuma axis to lobby the ANC Provincial List Conferences to put Zuma as number one and Thabo Mbeki lower on the list, has failed. -- This has been preceded by numerous efforts to damage the credibility of the President and endanger his life. ------------ ? The NIA demands the right to give clearance before the IEC uses the services or employs anyone. This is whilst the IEC contracts a company called INTEGRA to do its integrity checks. Further, all security companies used by the IEC has to be registered by the Security Officers Board, yet the NIA still demands that they have to vet them. The result is that the NIA puts their friends and companies in the IEC , it is also a mechanism to award tenders to contacts and business associates, using the security clearance mechanism.(Ref.Annex 4 Letter from the Director-General to Brigalia Bam) This has a snowballing effect on the entire IEC organisation, in terms of it becoming an intelligence gathering mechanism for the NIA, which then supplies this information to certain factions in the ANC, to the detriment of the other political parties. The integrity and independence of the IEC becomes totally compromised. What is the formal procedures in regards the relationship between the IEC and the Security Forces Planning The National Operation Co-ordinating Committee (NOCOC) is the mechanism for initiating, planning and controlling the protection of the election process. (POCOCs at Provincial level) I.E.C. Role ? To establish the planning requirements and parameters. ? To serve as a member of the NOCOC Priority Committee. ? To monitor the execution of the protection process. Execution ? NIA provides threat analysis ? SAPS establish mechanisms to combat possible threats. ? SANDF supports the SAPS. Reporting Procedures ? SAPS provides weekly return of election related incidents. ? NIA provides monthly update of threat analysis. Liaison between Security Establishments and the IEC ? Monthly NOCOC Priority meetings ? What is really happening in the IEC in regards its relationship to the NIA and Security Forces (I) The IEC lacks capability to verify or dispute the NIA threat assessment or whether the SAPS uses the correct force to neutralise the threat. For an example, if the NIA identifies Inkatha Freedom Party as a threat in a specific area. The security forces acts with a force commensurate with the threat. How is the IEC to independently verify or dispute the threat analysis of NIA, and how does it verify or dispute whether the force used is commensurate with the threat? (II) In July 2003, the IEC-CEO Pansy Tlakula met with the Director-General of the NIA, Vusi Mavimbela, at his office in Pretoria for a private one to one meeting for an hour. Thereafter she called in her deputy to introduce him to the NIA Director-General. Mavimbela and Tlakula agreed that William Masango (NIA) will be appointed to handle all matters in the IEC vetting of people, security clearances, tenders, employees, companies, etc. This was done outside the NOCOC structure. There was a follow up meetings between the IEC- CEO and Masango, whereby a secret NIA team was set-up to co-ordinate all activities of the IEC. This team is comprised of: ? Brett Kebble Western Areas Chief Executive Brett Kebble and his father and fellow board member, Roger Kebble, went on trial on the 14/10/03 in Johannesburgs High Court on insider trading charges. The Kebbles are alleged to have bought shares in 1999 in Randfontein Estates, a gold mining company now owned by Harmony Gold Mining, without following stock market disclosure rules as they sought to take the company. The ANC Youlth League Leadership through their investment arm, Lembede Investments, which was set up by the Kebbles with 5 million rands , used their political influence and network to secure businesses for Kebble. Instead of 80% of profits going to the ANCYL, only 20% went to the League and the rest 80% was shared by the ANCYL leadership, including Malusi Gigaba, Lunga Ncwana, Andile Nkuhlu, Songezo Mjongile ,Fikile Mbalula. Niko Shaffer Niko Shaffer has the most formidable network in the South African Intelligence Community and Security Forces, as well as within the Department of Foreign Affairs. His business partners are the Sissulu Family and he operates under the protection of Lindiwe Sissulu. He is the main deal maker and financier of the embedded parallel intelligence structure within the official state structures. He provides and creates the funds for the removal of Thabo Mbeki. In Africa, most South African Ambassadors, and nearly all SASS operatives work for him in making deals, getting concessions, arms trafficking, involvement in conflict diamonds and corrupting African leaders, all in the name of NEPAD. He has been listed in the UN Report on Conflict Diamonds. We need a commission of inquiry, comprising of all political parties, prominent individuals and experts to investigate, rebuild and guide our intelligence community and security forces. We need a mechanism, whereby, individuals, companies and organisations have recourse to challenge the quality and accuracy of the intelligence gathered on them by the intelligence community. We need mechanisms whereby the intelligence provided to the President, on which foreign policy is based, can be challenged in terms of quality and accuracy. Police had to use pepper spray and a stun grenade to disperse them. Shades of the Ku Klux Klan? Except here the Klansmen are anti-racists. Anti-racist intolerance is growing in leaps and bounds. In another recent incident, it led to the unfortunate resignation from Pretoria University of one of our praag columnists after Dr Piet Croucamp from the University of Johannesburg had accused her of hate speech. As I have commented elsewhere in an Afrikaans column: “The media group Naspers and a small group of academics acting in bad faith and attacking others in the name of race, mostly for personal reasons, represent a danger to freedom of speech in South Africa.” This afternoon I got an email from a friend saying that Mr Burger’s case reminded him of the notorius “Black Circuit” of the early nineteenth century. At the time 1,000 Cape farmers had to appear before a roving court to answer to trumped-up charges of murder, rape and assault. In the end, no-one was convicted and it was found that colonial English missionaries had colluded with local Khoi-San tribesmen to falsely accuse farmers of heinous crimes. ---- Contrary to our law, Mr Burger, accused of assaulting a Coloured child, was "presumed guilty until his innocence could be proven". Two days ago, the Cape Times newspaper wrote about the case of Flippie Engelbrecht, the child concerned: “Those who brought the case to court charged that after the assault Engelbrecht had lost his sight, had epileptic fits, and because of this had rolled into a fire and suffered terrible burns, losing his hands.” In yesterday’s Cape Times, headlined Questions surround Flippie’s assault, “new evidence” came to light in the form of medical records showing that Flippie Engelbrecht had reported a “swelling on the side of his face”, which may have been a tumour, causing his epileptic fits and other medical problems. The same medical records contradict some of the dates advanced by the victim. However, in the meantime the wine farmer had committed suicide after his life and his business had been ruined by hysterical anti-racists pursuing him in the media, both traditional and social, led by the radical, Afrikaner-hating ex-lawyer (who was struck off the record as an attorney after dubious business deals and bankruptcy), Carina Papenfus. -- So here we have two incidences of whites being subjected to histrionic public campaigns by so-called “liberal” anti-racists whose objectives have more in common with the Spanish Inquisition than with advancing the precepts of liberalism. Freedom of speech and even academic freedom in South Africa have been casualties of these campaigns, not to mention the two white victims, one committing suicide and another resigning her post and leaving the country, presumably for fear of being further persecuted. Our universities are no longer places of learning but over-politicised shrines to political correctness and obtuse hatreds that are seemingly ignited by throwing a switch. Volumes have been written on the cultural, linguistic, racial, anthropological, ethnic, ideological and religious divisions of South African society and I do not wish to dwell on the obvious. What concerns me more, is the apparent descent of people with nominal university qualifications into this kind of racial street fighting. They wield race and the word “racist” like a Cape Flats gangster brandishes his knife. Not so long ago, twelve schools had to be closed in that area as a result of gang activity and Mrs Helen Zille, the premier of the Western Cape, was calling for the army to be brought in to stabilise Manenberg. Yet, ostensibly, we have more to fear from the pseudo-intellectual gangsters than from the drug-dealing, turf-warring criminals of the Cape Flats. Their influence on public discourse is far more insidious and destructive of the last vestiges of civilisation that remain in South Africa. They are intolerant zealots such as are to be found throughout history, wherever religious wars or ethnic conflicts have ignited and blazed. Except for the Sunday paper Rapport, no-one seems to take Papenfus seriously. She waged a slanderous email and Twitter campaign against the hapless winemaker, apparently threatening and cajoling his customers into ceasing to order from him, with the intention of ruining his business and his life. Ms. Papenfus is a kind of cyber thug that replicates the intimidation tactics of petty gangsters in the public sphere. After all, as any mafioso or racketeer knows, a small business may be ruined by hitting one or two of its weak spots. Although she must have studied at one time for a degree or diploma, she has no intellectual pretensions. Her creed is simple: harass the whites. And being white and Afrikaans herself, but an ANC member, it is a case of être plus royaliste que le roi. Papenfus is dangerous, but easily understood. The other two zealots who pounced upon the soft-spoken Pretoria woman philosopher, occupy positions of institutional power. Croucamp is a lecturer at the University of Johannesburg in political science and frequently appears on talk shows, both on radio and on television, wearing his trademark blue bandana. Schutte writes a column in the Mail & Guardian newspaper which is also avidly read by the “tenured radicals” at South Africa’s more than twenty universities. -- Schutte was due to debate Croucamp’s victim on the topic: “‘Do white people have an obligation to withdraw from the public sphere?’ But as she stated in a subsequent column: “I am obviously not going to validate Louise Mabille’s hate speech by actually debating with her. Rather I will end by saying that she has presented a shining example of how whites should not participate in the public arena. It is a good thing that Louise Mabille has handed in her resignation and that the University of Pretoria has accepted it.” -- From Rhodes University, we have already had an opinion by Dr Samantha Vice that all whites, i.e. everyone of European descent, should take some form of vow to remain silent in public. So white guilt leads to the ultimate form of self-censorship, public silence. Elsewhere, Ms Gillian Schutte describes herself, somewhat pretentiously, as a “feminist-neopagan-post-structuralist-deconstructionist-socialist” and she apparently has a Master’s degree in creative writing from the University of the Witwatersrand. LYNCH MOB FOR JOHNNY BURGER The one thing we can already deduce is that the mob outside the Cape courtroom who wanted to lynch Mr Burger at least believed in some form of dialogue. They were screaming, hurling abuse and gesticulating. With police intervention and protection, one could still call it communication. Croucamp and Schutte want to reduce us to silence, however. Theirs is the monologue of totalitarianism, of censorship, of “There is only one truth and it is mine”. They pontificate in the name of power, the corrupt power that is ruling, nay, pillaging, South Africa. It is therefore ironic that Schutte should describe herself as a “post-structuralist-deconstructionist”. Does she even know what she is referring to? The very basis of any “deconstruction” is the existence of more than one meaning, even the uncertainty, indetermination and radical plurality of meanings. Just over ten years ago a small group of us Afrikaner thinkers had a private seminar with Jacques Derrida, the father of deconstruction, at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales on the boulevard de Raspail in Paris. I remember Derrida as a modest, soft-spoken, amiable figure who reminisced about his single visit to South Africa. He liked Potchefstroom and even told me that “Heidegger would have felt at home there”. Derrida was full of gentle irony, self-doubt and respect for others, even the Other, as he so often termed it in his more political writings. Schutte, by contrast, is a third-world ideologue, possessed by a terrible certainty. She has more in common with Robert Mugabe or Idi Amin than Jacques Derrida. Like so many others strutting about our campuses today, she has no real culture but the fad of the moment. The more politically correct such fads are, the better. Her meretricious pseudo-intellectualism has all the charm of Winnie Mandela’s expensive sunglasses and jewellery, being the brash expression of a corrupt and power-hungry soul. Ideas are but slogans, brands, to market yourself to another kind of mob to the one that wanted to lynch the Cape winemaker. SOUTH AFRICA HAS BECOME MURDEROUS, AMORAL, CORRUPT AND DECADENT: I have often thought that South Africa today has much in common with Nero’s Rome. Our country has become murderous, corrupt and decadent. Innocence has died. Approximately a thousand children are raped every day, including babies, and nobody says a word. Or if they broach the subject, they are immediately reduced to silence, given the ritual knife for disembowelling themselves. Schutte’s smug satisfaction (“It is a good thing that Louise Mabille has handed in her resignation and that the University of Pretoria has accepted it”) may be deconstructed to reveal two things: Schadenfreude and a paradoxical expectation of honour in others. There is no English word for Schadenfreude, hence the German loanword that is universally used. However, the Afrikaans (and Dutch) term "leedvermaak" expresses the same thing, with a few more connotations (“signifieds” for post-structuralists) thrown in. The other day I tweeted in Afrikaans, something to the effect that leedvermaak is the apotheosis of journalism in South Africa. Vermaak also means entertainment, hence the misery of others, their travails amid hysterical accusations, calumny and vilification provide entertainment. Anti-racist Blitzkrieg, either on the vineyards of the Cape or on the campus of Pretoria University, therefore feeds the sensationalist mainstream media machine, sated on the blood of murder victims. CELEBRITY BUSINESSMAN KENNY KUNENE: Due to the surfeit of murders in South Africa, people are becoming bored with news of another killing, no matter how ruthless and macabre. Celebrity murder, such as the Oscar Pistorius case, is still news, but not even serial killings elicit much attention. In a society as utterly cruel and corrupt as ours, we are in desperate need of frivolity, such as the camp antics of that incorrigible clown in drag, Pieter-Dirk Uys, or Kenny Kunene’s parties where guests eat sushi off the bodies of bikini-clad ladies. South Africa is profoundly amoral. It lacks a moral or ethical code to define right and wrong. Someone like Baudrillard would say that this “lack”, in a psychoanalytical sense, creates a need for a kind of pseudo-ethics, a moral simulacrum. 'ANTI-WHITE RACISM CAMPAIGN' This is where anti-racism comes in. Anti-racism is the simulacrum of our lost moral code. It is no coincidence that the objectionable sentence in Louise Mabille’s column contained references to both Calvinism and baby rape, the former marking the overtly Christian morality of the old South Africa and the latter epitomising the radical “freedom from all scruples” that characterises the new South Africa. In this respect, Gillian Schutte, despite her evidently defective grasp of some basic philosophical and literary concepts, understands the “new amorality” well. In one of her “feminist” videos, a rape victim explains that the “cure” for the shame attached to having been raped, is to join the so-called “slutwalk”, ardently recommended by Ms. Schutte. By self-identifying as a slut, a woman is freed from the fear of rape and “forced sex” as it is euphemistically called. Miracle cures are to be found everywhere in South Africa, peddled by immigrant Nigerian pastors and indigenous witchdoctors alike. Not to forget the infamous “virgin cleansing myth” by which one may be cured of HIV-Aids by raping a virgin, including an infant, and which Louise Mabille alluded to in her column. Gillian Schutte is also a champion of the word “cunt” which, according to her, should become part of our everyday discourse. Five of his prized stud horses - amongst them a foal worth R2million - have already been stolen and chased across the Caledon River into Lesotho. He uses the horses for show-jumping competitions. And in the latest incident his German shephard Zak disappeared without a trace while Mcdonald was fighting a fire on Saturday in the early morning hours. He suspects that Zak was stolen- but the animal escaped and came home. Neighbouring farm-manager Castell Musgrave says he has the same problems at the farm he runs over the past two weeks: arson and theft. He suspects that the farm is being targeted out of revenge. A while back he had taken 11 unknown animals which did not belong on the farm, to the animal pound in Ladybrand. His chickens and tools also were robbed while he was fighting a fire: and his girlfriend was alone at home. Quoted was Free State Agriculture and Agri-SA's rural security committee chairman Kobus Breytenbach as saying that 'we will be raising the issue of the maintenance of the border road end September with the National Department of Public Works. He said the agreement between Free State Agriculture and 'several national roads departments conformed by the Free State High Court last year, has designated the National Dept of Public Works as the responsible party for the road's maintenance - and he's unhappy about their 'slow progress'. Residents have called the police liars, and complain that the police often beat people and get away with it. GroundUp has followed up on the case. According to Lieutenant Traut, police "cannot comment on Mbatsha's case as it was investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID). Moses Dlamini, national spokesperson for the IPID, said, "The cause of Mbatsha's death could not be determined by the first post mortem." He said a second opinion had been requested and that the toxicology results are outstanding. NIGERIAN-SA RESIDENT OBINNA UGBOAJA DEAD IN SAPS CUSTODY In a similar incident in December 2012, reported on by Denise Williams for The Times, Obinna Ugboaja died in police custody. In January, the Nigerian Union marched to parliament to demand an end to police beatings. Kanyi Dyantyi, the fiancé of Ugboaja, said that she was shocked when she was taken to the mortuary to find marks on his neck and his mouth covered with blood. The police told Dyanti that Ugboaja overdosed on cocaine, but Dyatyi does not believe them. The Nigerian Union in the Western Cape opened a case at the Cape Town Central Police station. According to the newspaper article, the Union said that in most cases such brutality is swept under the carpet because it is assumed that all Nigerians are criminals. Again, police could not comment "as the case is investigated by the IPID, the post mortem examination is inconclusive, and toxicology tests are outstanding." According to the Independent Complaints Directorate 2011/2012 annual report, cited by Williams, 932 people died in police custody or as a result of police action in that reporting year. It is believed that both cases have not yet been to court because there are hundreds of unsolved similar cases. Both families do not know what is happening to the cases. Thus far only his 'gardener was taken in for questioning', however. The torture-gang, described as 'robbers', hogtied the old police officer by his hands and feet, tortured him with a hot iron, and a kette of boiling water. Then he was strangled to death with his own clothes. The torture-murder was committed on Myburgh's smallholding in Boschfontein on 4 August 2013 police believe. SAPS captain Thivulavi Tshilate said the 'robbery' have occurred between 9pm and the next morning. The gang escaped in Myburgh's black Mazda 3 and tore his registered firearms safe, containing a 12-bore shotgun, a .22 pistol and a .22 rifle, from the wall and dragged it with them. They also took his ceremonial police sable. They didn't 'rob' the car: it was found torched early on 6 august next to the Vaaldam Road outside Ratanda near a farm named Nooitgedacht. As more facts surface regarding the owner of Rietvallei wine farm, Mr. Johnny Burger, who had been driven to suicide by anti-racists and the media, the so-called perpetrator is starting to look more and more like a victim. In a glowing letter published in the Boland Gazette, a local newspaper in the Cape, a young Coloured woman recounts how the winemaker donated money to further her studies in America. At the time her father was a worker on the farm who was treated with warmth and fairness by the same man accused by Rapport of “beating a young Coloured boy into epilepsy”. My father, who passed away four years ago, was a builder and worked for Oom Johnny for close to a decade. After matric, I was determined to travel overseas and made the necessary arrangements to go to America. These plans were a little bit ambitious for a coloured, Afrikaans girl from a small wine community within the Western Cape. One Friday afternoon, my father told me to hop into his old, rickety bakkie and we drove off to Rietvallei to see Johnny Burger.At the farm, my father introduced me to Oom Johnny and I remember meeting the tallest man I had ever seen in my life. My father was a pretty tall man himself, but Oom Johnny towered over him like a city skyscraper. My father explained to him that this was the daughter who was leaving for New York soon and if he, Oom Johnny, didn’t have a few extra ‘dollars’ to give to me.As a teenager, this completely caught me off-guard and I thought I could’ve just died. I remember poking my father in the hip and smiling shyly, as to say that we don’t need any ‘hold-outs’. I was a proud teenage girl embarrassed at everything that my father did or say. Oom Johnny just smiled, walked over to his cabinet and drew 200 American dollars out of his drawer. I was shocked at how easily he gave the money, almost like an investment, in me. My father loved him, that’s why he worked for him for over a decade. He always came home with some story of what “Johnny Burger said” or what “Johnny Burger did”. I smile now at how Oom Johnny was never known as just “Johnny”, his name was always followed by his surname and it’s like I can see my father saying it right now. Oom Johnny was also the first to offer advice when we found out about my father’s cancer. I remember visiting Rietvallei again after I came back from America. Oom Johnny spoke to me in English and I replied in my ‘newly-acquired’ American accent, much to his and my father’s amusement. I remember him looking at me and I remember seeing the same look in his eyes, as I saw in my own father’s eyes; that of a proud father. I can only tell you of the Johnny Burger I knew. I wanted to write this tribute to Oom Johnny, as my father would have wanted me to do. I can speak only of what I know and what he did for me and my family. Carina Papenfus, the secretary of The Freedom Trust, a farmworkers’ rights NGO, has been advising the family and filed a complaint with the Sea Point police on Engelbrecht’s behalf earlier this year. - Papenfus has said Engelbrecht was assaulted on Friday, January 25, 2008.On the Sunday, she said, he was “in and out of consciousness” and was taken to a doctor in Robertson on Monday, January 28, and, later that day, in an ambulance to Tygerberg Hospital, Cape Town, for “emergency surgery” that left him blind. Engelbrecht, who was born on December 28, 1994, according to records, was 13 at the time.Papenfus has also said Engelbrecht fell into a fire, leaving him with severe burns, in September 2009. Subsequently his hands were amputated. Robertson wine farmer Johnny Burger and his manager, Wilhelm Treurnicht, appeared in the Ashton Magistrate’s Court last week, and the case was postponed to September 13. On Tuesday morning, Burger, who owned the Rietvallei farm on which the assault allegedly took place, was found dead at home. (A pending inquest will decide whether he took his own life.) DOCUMENTS SHOW DIFFERENT DATES: Documents in the possession of the Cape Times indicate that Engelbrecht was taken to a doctor on August 15, 2009, complaining of “swelling on the side of his face”. This was 19 months after the alleged assault. Another report, compiled from Worcester Hospital medical records, states that he was referred from Robertson to Worcester Hospital on August 19, 2009 “for possible brain abscess”. He was seen and then sent to Tygerberg Hospital the next day for a brain scan. In October 2009, he was evaluated by the Pioneer School for the Visually Impaired in Worcester with a view to placing him in the school. Records from the Pioneer School say that: “According to the parents he became blind in a strange way, after a boil on his cheek, and was taken to a local doctor. “Swelling occurred and his condition worsened, whereafter he was taken to Worcester Hospital. “According to the mother he was there for about six weeks, and on release he was blind.” A Worcester Hospital report also states that Engelbrecht was referred from Robertson on August 19 last year with burns. Engelbrecht was treated for burns and 10 days later had to have his hands amputated in Worcester. After this he was referred to Tygerberg for more treatment. An occupational therapy report from Tygerberg Hospital from September last year confirms that Engelbrecht had suffered burns on August 19. Flippie later fell into a fire during a seizure and lost both his hands. Last week he was fitted with a pair of prosthetic hands. -- It is the State’s case that in 2008 Burger and Treurnicht had beaten Engelbrecht, who worked on the farm, and Flippie, then 15. The evidence has not yet been led. The men appeared for their first court-appearance. On Wednesday, the small court building, which has only one courtroom, was filled with tension and anger as the community waited for the two men to appear. By 9am, more than 100 people described as 'farmworkers and community members' by the Argus had gathered outside the court to support the Engelbrecht family. Burger and Treurnicht arrived after 11am, and it was reported that they were late because one had not been feeling well. This prompted fury from the gallery. Shouts of “why are you so special? Who do you think you are?” were yelled as they entered the courtroom. “You say that you not feeling well. How you think this child feels and all the other children you assault?” shouted Carina de Viliers Papenfus, a disbarred lawyer who is the secretary of the Freedom Trust. After a brief appearance, magistrate Francois van Deventer transferred the case to the Ashton Regional Court, postponing the matter to September 13. Ms Odendaal (45) was sitting inside her car, calling the police emergency numer 10111, just moments before a police officer shot her dead execution-style in her car, parked in front of Kempton Park Police Station. It has come to light at the bail application that Kgoale had booked himself into the Elim Clinic for alcohol addiction between March 26 to April 2 -- and had earlier in the year also been treated for mental illness. It also came to light that he ‘was in a very emotiional state because his girlfriend did not want to allow him to visit their six-year-old daughter.’ It was not revealed at the bail-application why Kgoale was allowed back on duty, packing a gun when he was still in such an emotional state.He remains in custody until June 23 pending investigations. Brandfort widow Elsabeth du Bruyn (71) was found murdered, tied with her hands and feet, at 09h00 by her housekeeper and neighbours in her Brandfort, Free State home. ,There also was a rope around her neck, reports Afrikaans daily Volksblad. It is suspected, said SAPS constable Maselela Langa, that she was attacked around 08h00 the previous evening.
