Farm-foreman Danie Schreuder 56 " beaten to death like an animal" March 9 2014 - Farm Miershooppan, Askham, Kimberley -- Farm-manager Danie Schreuder, 56, life-partner Marietha Titus 34 and their son Jason, 5, were sleeping outside their homestead beneath a lean-to because it was so hot. Mr Schreuder, who farmed on the farm Miershooppan near Askham, Kimberley belonging to Fritz Oosthuizen, was fast asleep with his family when he was beaten to death by an unidentified person with the rifle-butt of an airgun. Their two airguns were stolen the night before, said his terrified partner Marietha Titus, who also was beaten over the head and shoulders but managed to flee with their five-year-old son Jason Schreuder. Two airguns were stolen from their homestead the night before. She said the keys to their bakkie also are missing. "We were attacked with our own weapons. I also got a hell of a blow across my head and shoulders,' she said. Ms Titus waited until she thought the attacker had left before sneaking back into the homestead to alert the police. The police and the ambulance showed up very quickly and the couple were rushed to the nearby clinic - where the nurse on duty recommended that Schreuder be taken to the Upington hospital. He was declared braindead shortly after arrival on Friday-evening and officially died on Saturday evening 'after his heart stopped beating'. His son and partner now are staying with Schreuder's children from his first marriage, Alfred Schreuder and Ida Krause - whose mother died early in their lives. Ida Krause's husband Loffie said 'the injuries to his head were horrendous'. 's husband Loffie Krause said his Mr Schreuder's parents Alfred 82 and Susie 80 live in the Heuwelsig retirement centre in Kuruman. SAPS lt Andrea Cloete said no-one has been arrested. Schreuder's employer, farm owner Fritz Oosthuizen, said he was a friendly, hardworking man. "He was always read to help someone and was very dedicated to his family. He always took his little boy to the pre-school centre about 30km away from the homestead three days a week, and would sit and wait for hours to take him home again."The residents may not have realised what a kind human being and family man he was.'
