March 28 2014. Senior Correctional Services Officer H. Mkhuna was found guilty of beating Afrikaner child Angelique Meintjies, 10 and injuring her on the legs with the the belt from his prison uniform on December 9 2013. The Vosloorus magistrate sentenced Mkhuma to 90 hours of community service. There is no indication whether Mkhuma now will be allowed to keep his job. In normal countries he would have lost his job because he now has a criminal record. In South Africa, having a criminal record is not a barrier to holding down a government job.
