Bangladeshi businessman Altaf Hamad kidnapped, held for 21 days and still missing: R600,000 extorted from his South African family: court hears by Bangadeshi criminals
In March 2013, Port Elizabeth businessman Altaf Hamad, originally from Bangladesh, was drugged, beaten and held hostage in a tiny, filthy room in a warehouse for 21 days while his kidnappers extorted R600000 from his family.
The Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court heard that another Bangladeshi is believed to be the mastermind behind Hamad's abduction and that a dozen suspects are still at large.
