February 17 2015 - The armed blacks stormed into their homestead near Malalane, with one man shooting at Pieter Slabbert. Slabbert was shot and also frantically stabbed by the knifeman. He reportedly is in a stable condition at the Mediclinic in Nelspruit, East Transvaal's trauma-unit. He was treated for 'a number of gunshot wounds and knife-wounds'. After the homesteader was shot and knifed by their man, Lizette fled with her daughter to the bedroom - however one of the attackers grabbed her, bashed her in the face and pushed his 9mm to her forehead. He yelled "White Rubbish' and threatened to kill them . They only took the laptop and the cellphones from the kitchen table. Lizette said the gunman fired four shots at Pieter but only two bullets injured him. Then the knifeman jumped to and stabbed him repeated. Lizette pleaded for the lives of her daughter when she was dragged around by her hair and threats were made to kill her too. Then the attackers fled. Lizette, who had a cellphone in a hiding place, called the emergency services and the police. Lisa Pillay of Mediclinic Nelspruit confirmed that Pieter Slabbert 'is in a stable condition'. East Transvaal police spokesman sergeant Gerald Sedibe said they are investigating attempted-murder and house robbery. They came across items they believed had been stolen at an adjacent sugar-plantation. It's not confirmed whether this loot came from the Slabbert homestead.
