Suspects on the run following Durban house robbery
A case of house robbery is under investigation after two armed suspects robbed a house in Forest Hills, Durban in KwaZulu-Natal.
Hillcrest police communications officer Constable Ndumiso Manqele said the suspects robbed the house on Thursday at about 1.45am, Highway Mail reported.
“It is alleged the owner of the house was smoking outside when he saw two men coming towards him. He ran back to the house screaming for help, but the two men caught up with him and pushed him to the floor, pointing a gun at him,” added Manqele.
Manqele said the man, his wife and the brother of his wife were tied up before the robbers demanded bank cards and pins.
The robbers allegedly threatened to put the victim’s child in the microwave if the they did not cooperate.
“They ransacked the house, taking items including two plasma TVs, books, shoes, three laptops, a coffee-making machine and a home theatre system and fled in the victim’s two cars,” said Manqele.
The items were discovered in a house in Wyebank after searching several houses in the area.
The two cars were discovered in KwaNdengezi with the help of Pieter Laubscher from a local tracking company, who traced the cars’ whereabouts, said Manqele. No arrests have been made.
Last month, a 72-year-old man was shot twice during a house robbery in Ramsgate, KwaZulu-Natal.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Arnold Miller had taken his daughter to school, leaving his wife, Patricia Tench-Wilkinson, 57, at home when two armed suspects entered their house.
The two masked suspects then allegedly tied her hands and legs with cable ties and taped her mouth. They then demanded money and keys to the safe before threatening to rape their domestic worker, added Mfeka.
