It was reported on January 10 2014 by the Rustenburg Herald that Rustenburg resident Mr Du Preez, his daughter and her four-year-old son were attacked by a black gang Friday January 10 2014. The gang held up the Afrikaner family at gunpoint and bludgeoned Mr du Preez over the head, leaving the Afrikaner ratepayer badly injured. They broke into the house through a garage-door, said SAPS captain Elsabé Augoustides to the Rustenburg Herald.
Mr Du Preez's daughter hid behind a door while her little boy was asleep in other room. Mr Du Preez 'got rowdy with the gunmen' and they hit him over the head.
"They beat him until his head was cut open and cursed and shouted hatespeech at him, said Capt Augoustides.
Meanwhile Mr Du Preez's gardener crawled from the home to find help with neighbours. The gangsters fled in their luxury car taking Mr Du Preez cellphone, laptop and plasma TV.
The SAPS showed up shortly after the gardener raised the alert and because the police helicopter happened to be in the area, they searched for the suspects. However it had to land for fuel and the men could not be found.
Mr Du Preez has been taken for medical care. The police continues its investigation.
