Six armed black men in blue overalls threaten to kill Koppies lion-breeder Maryna Steyn in farm homested - Monday Jan 20 2014. Volksblad reports that lion-breeder Maryna Steyn was threatened that they would kill her by six armed black men who went into her homestead while she was talking on her cellphone.
Her home is only metres away from a lion-camp; the couple raise lions. The one gunman was joined by five more. They all were dressed in blue overalls and four of them took Mrs Steyn, the housekeeper and the gardener inside the homestead while two gunmen stood watch outside.
Steyn's husband Phillip had left earlier - and actually drove past the men who looked as if they were standing next to the road looking at a power cable.
He thought they were from Eskom, she said. Mrs Steyn couldn't remember where she kept the safe key and one man threatened to shoot her dead while another one was constantly slapping her hard around her ears.
The men looted two gold coins, two revolvers, a laptop computer, jewellery and cameras. When they left the room they told her to 'be quiet, we are waiting for your husband'.
However when it fell silent she managed no get out of her bonds and immediately tried to phone her husband - and when his phone was busy she alerted her daughter Tanya Botha.
Her son-in-law Kapok immediately rushed to the Steyn homestead while Tanya alerted area farmers.
When Phillip called he was told of the attack. http://www.volksblad.com/nuus/2014-01-20-ek-kan-nie-glo-ek-leef-nie
